Mr. Michael Vu, CEO of Boeing in Vietnam, and Mr. Trinh Van Quyet, Founder of Bamboo Airways, exchange a model of the Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner
Representing Bamboo Airways, Mr. Truong Phuong Thanh, Chief Executive Officer, together with the airline’s Executive Board, also met with Mr. ZiZhang Ng, Regional Sales Director for Asia and Oceania of Boeing.
During the meeting, both sides reviewed significant milestones in their previous cooperation. Bamboo Airways and Boeing had signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for the purchase of Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner aircraft, while also establishing framework agreements to build a long-term cooperation foundation.
In the development of its long-haul fleet, Bamboo Airways previously operated the Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner, which played a key role in its strategy to connect Vietnam with major international markets such as Germany, the United Kingdom, and Australia. Notably, Bamboo Airways was also the first Vietnamese airline to complete a non-stop direct flight between Vietnam and the United States, marking an important milestone that enhanced the airline’s position on the regional aviation map.
Bamboo Airways was honored as “Asia’s Leading Regional Airline” (World Travel Awards 2020–2025) and has maintained an absolute safety record, transporting millions of passengers annually while achieving the highest on-time performance (OTP) rate in Vietnam’s aviation industry for many consecutive years. During the period when the market was heavily impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic, the implementation of certain cooperation contents between the two sides experienced temporary interruptions.
Currently, as operations are gradually stabilizing and its medium- and long-term development strategy becomes more clearly defined, Bamboo Airways has been restoring and further developing previously established cooperation frameworks, in alignment with market conditions and the strategic orientations of both parties.
At the meeting, Mr. Trinh Van Quyet shared Bamboo Airways’ direction for the upcoming period. Based on optimizing fleet structure and enhancing operational efficiency, the airline proposed leasing new-generation narrow-body aircraft, specifically the Boeing 737 MAX, to improve fuel efficiency, control costs, and increase flexibility in network deployment.
Within the discussion framework, Bamboo Airways also requested Boeing to consider supporting training programs and operational capability transfer related to the Boeing 737 MAX family, including training for flight crews, technical teams, and operational support personnel. Investing comprehensively in high-quality human resources has been identified as a key factor to ensure operational efficiency and maintain safety standards in line with international benchmarks.
Mr. Michael Vu, CEO of Boeing in Vietnam, expressed his support and readiness to accompany Bamboo Airways. He also welcomed the clear direction and strong determination demonstrated by the airline’s founder in this new phase of development.
Both sides agreed to continue discussions in the coming time to further specify cooperation contents, aiming toward a substantive partnership framework aligned with Bamboo Airways’ development strategy and Boeing’s global orientation.
